What is the JSNA?
A JSNA is the means by which Hull PCT and the Hull City Council will find out about and describe the current and future health, care and well-being needs of the people of Hull.
What is a needs assessment?
A needs assessment is a systematic way of gathering information about the current and future needs of a particular population. The assessment will usually look at health needs, care needs and well-being needs.
A needs assessment is used to inform the
planning of services and to decide how resources should be shared between
services. This is so that the needs can be addressed and health inequalities
in the population can be reduced.
Who carries out the JSNA?
The JSNA is carried out jointly by the PCT and Hull City Council. It is the joint responsibility of the Director of Public Health, Director of Children’s Services and the Director of Adult Social Services.
How is the JSNA different to what had happened before?
The JSNA is the most comprehensive assessment of the needs of the people of Hull that has ever been carried out. It looks at the needs of the people of Hull over both the short and longer-term.
It gives us the opportunity to review and build on all the needs assessment work that has already been done and will help to develop and join up health and social care services.
Why are we doing a JSNA?
The JSNA will take account of what Hull people want from their local services by asking local people and service providers, who are close to their communities, to supply information to the JSNA
through the consultation process.

What is different about the Hull JSNA?
This body of
knowledge about health in Hull is not a static and heavy document which sits on
office shelves and is not used. The JSNA is regularly updated and is
a living and interactive web based resource for all the people of Hull, the
Voluntary Sector, The Council, all the NHS Organisations and trusts, the Police
and Fire Service.
